Author Interview with Susan Nicole Scully Hetrick

I've only just getting to know this brand new author and she has a lot of promise for the future. Let's get to know her a little bit better together. I recently read Susan's book and it'll show you how much some people have to go through from an early age. Make sure you pick up a copy from Amazon, and support a new author.

A Girl Called Beauty is a passion project belonging to first time published author Susan (Scully) Hetrick, who started writing in sixth grade. Even at an early age, Susie had challenges and struggles well beyond those of a normal childhood and wondered if everyone lived the way she did. But undaunted by life's tangled paths, Susie pressed on. After being handed even more obstacles, she realized that life had thrown enough at her to fill a book, so she started writing.

First, trying to fill the missing memories that were suppressed from abuses and violations suffered in her early youth, then the struggle and love of middle school. She continued writing about family loss, alcohol abuse, getting in with the "wrong crowd," finding family, and becoming a teenage single mother of a bi-racial daughter. But her struggles didn't stop there, and thankfully, neither did her writing.

Through all of her experiences, Susan learned how to be a mom. She faced parenting issues in her newlywed years that paralleled the abuse she suffered as a child that challenged her ability to remain married while fighting to keep her oldest child alive. Susie poured her heart out into paper. The passion she shared about her personal experiences will leave you breathless for more. This motivational and inspiring book is dedicated to all of those who need answers to life's tough questions. Susie urges that, yes, it gets tough, but yes, it means something, and in time, it all gets better.

Tell me a little about yourself, where do you live, family, hobbies!

I live in Groton, CT as a dating mom of 3 ages 16, 9, and 4. They are finally all potty trained and in school. Pre-K counts. We have a great house we bought this year and 2 cats. My dad has become my super hero in the years since we lost my mom.

The struggle was life changing and I will never be the same. I am still finding out who I am and who I want to be.

Professionally I’m a numbers gal at a desk doing Bookkeeping. At home I take in the stray kids who need a place to go when life gets hard.

My hobbies are mostly related to my kids and my house which includes yard work. I actually enjoy yard work. I love being barefoot in the grass which is why I cannot own a dog. I love dogs though. We got to the skate park in town, ice cream outings, random “Buy Nothing” pickups, plant swaps, and are in Niantic a lot of weekends where my dad lives near some great beaches. We walk on those big rocks and pick up little shells. I try to bring my kiddos to church but it only happens a few random times a year when the stars align.

I like astrology and want to learn more about it as well as massage and reflexology too.
